While you complete a short health information form, we will set up a massage table and supplies. Lighting, soothing music playing softly in the background, and your choice of aromatherapy scents will help you focus on reaching a deeper state of relaxation. We have a great selection of music and aromatherapy; however, we understand that everyone has their own unique tastes. We are there for you; you choose the environment that best relaxes you. We will also ask what results you are looking for, such as relaxation or pain relief, and you and your therapist will design a massage to fit your needs.
We will leave the room to wash up while you undress to your comfort level and lie on the massage table between a fresh set of linens. All areas will be covered except the area being worked on. Private areas are never exposed. You may ask any questions at any time during your massage. If at any time you desire lighter/deeper pressure, more/less focus on any area, or wish to end the session, please let us know.
The massage begins with a comfortable light touch, this may be at the feet or shoulders depending on what work is done. The work will generally begin with broad flowing strokes. These have a calming effect on the nervous system and release the tension in your superficial muscles. I will then work on specific muscles as needed.
Make yourself comfortable. Most people just close their eyes and relax completely during a massage. Some prefer to talk. It's not uncommon for people to fall asleep during a massage. It's your massage, and whatever feels natural for you is certainly the best way to relax. Remember YOU are paying for the massage so you should be in charge, if something that we do does not feel good please let us know; if it feels great let us know as well so we can spend some extra time working there.
If it is necessary during the session to adjust your position, we will first make sure that you remain properly covered and then tell you what to do (such as turning over). If you feel the need to use the bathroom during the session, just let us know. We will temporarily stop the session. We will check with you several times during the session about the pressure that is being used. Remember, the more feedback you give, the better the massage will be for you.
Massage often finds "tender points" in the body. These are areas that you may be unaware of, but tender or even painful to the touch. They may even be the cause of pain that is felt in other areas. We are highly trained and have a lot of experience releasing muscle cramps or tender spots.
When your massage is over we will leave the room to wash up while you dress. When you are ready, equipment will be packed. Please allow an additional 15 to 30 minutes for your session for dressing, set-up and packing for house calls.
You should always have a drink of water after getting a massage. If this was a deep or therapeutic massage and a lot of tension was released, you should significantly increase your water intake so that toxins released from the muscle tissue will more readily pass out of your body. Soaking in a warm bath with epsom or mineral salts will assist in alleviating any soreness.
After the massage, it is not uncommon to experience muscle soreness a day or two after your massage treatment. The soreness is a result of direct contact with spasms in the muscle, as well as accumulated waste products in the tissue being naturally released into your system.
